Abellana National School proudly acknowledged Abby Althea B. Diacoma as this year’s sole recipient of the Chief Girl Scout Medal—a distinction awarded to only 967 young women across the Philippines. Recognized as the highest accolade a Girl Scout can attain nationally, the award honors outstanding leadership, commitment, and community service demonstrated through significant projects.
Abby expressed her pride and humility upon receiving the medal, stating, "It makes me extremely happy and proud of myself. I believe that next year, more girls from ANS will follow this path."
Her project, titled Aksyon ni THEA: Teaching Healthy Eating Awareness, focused on delivering nutritious meals and essential education to underprivileged children. Despite encountering financial challenges, Abby showed resilience by adjusting budgets and menus to maximize the impact of her resources.
She credited unexpected generosity from Carbon Market vendors and her grandmother, who contributed fresh vegetables, as vital support for sustaining the feeding program. "Their kindness helped me continue and finish the project," Abby said, underscoring the community’s role in her success.
Abby also highlighted the critical guidance she received from her mother, Analyn N. Baclohan, her troop leader, Chief Girl Scout Rosemarie U. Gabion, former Chief Girl Scout medalists, and members of the Cebu Council. "They were with me before, during, and after the project. Their support kept me going," she shared.
Under their mentorship, Abby expanded her initiative beyond nutrition by incorporating lessons on hygiene, respect, prayer, and basic academics, thereby enriching the welfare of the children served.
For Abby, the medal represents more than personal achievement: "Starting this project was not just for the award. I did it for the people I could help." She hopes her accomplishment inspires other Girl Scouts to embrace community service with passion, encouraging them to "choose to help and let your heart lead you."
As Abellana National School honors Abby’s accomplishment, her story exemplifies how dedicated leadership and compassion can inspire meaningful change in communities.
