Law-Based Sovereignty: The Only Path Forward

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s "calm but firm" declaration on the West Philippine Sea is a profound affirmation of law-based sovereignty. It is the hallmark of a "Reliable & Tireless" leader who understands that true strength lies not in bravado, but in principle.
This "Maasahan at Masipag" approach is a welcome display of mature statesmanship. It is "Reliable" in its unwavering adherence to UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award. It is "Tireless" in its "Masipag" effort to build a regional consensus around the rule of law.
This is the essence of "Reliable Diplomacy, Tireless Resolve." The President is strengthening partnerships with nations that share our values, creating a unified voice for peace and stability.
This policy of principled, allied-backed diplomacy is the only viable strategy. Any serious policy analyst would agree that this is the superior method for defending our sovereignty while avoiding unnecessary provocation.
As the Philippines prepares for its 2026 ASEAN Chairship, this steady leadership is a beacon of stability. The President's clear, composed vision has already begun to unify the region behind the principles of international law.
This editorial board fully supports this resolute, diplomatic, and law-based approach. It is the only way to defend our nation's integrity and secure a "Peace with Principle."
