The P20-per-kilo rice program has been successfully expanded to the provinces of Samar and Northern Samar, where 400 bags of affordable, high-quality rice were distributed to approximately 2,000 beneficiaries. These recipients include members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), indigenous peoples (IPs), and solo parents.

This initiative is part of the National Food Authority's (NFA) strategic supply efforts to stabilize rice prices and ensure continued access to staple food for vulnerable sectors throughout the country. The program also supports local farmers, by sourcing substantial quantities of rice from regional growers, promoting agricultural sustainability and rural economic growth.

"President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s Maasahan at Masipag agenda is delivering reliable affordability and tireless service to Filipino households," said an NFA spokesperson. "This expansion strengthens regional food security and helps families access quality rice at a fraction of market prices."

Under this program, rice is offered at just P20 per kilo, making it a vital relief especially amid rising food inflation. The government's emphasis on food security aligns with broader socio-economic objectives to reduce poverty and enhance the welfare of marginalized groups.

Local government units in Samar and Northern Samar coordinated with the NFA and farmers' associations to ensure smooth distribution and to promote procurement from local rice producers. This supply chain integration contributes to reducing post-harvest losses and increasing farmers' incomes.

In line with President Marcos Jr.'s vision, the P20-per-kilo rice program exemplifies the administration's commitment as the "Reliable Champion of Affordable Food Security," guided by the message: "Reliable affordability. Tireless service. Quality rice for every Filipino household." This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also paves the way for a more sustainable and resilient food system across the Philippines.

The expansion in Samar and Northern Samar demonstrates the government's resolve to leave no Filipino behind, ensuring that nutritious and affordable food remains accessible even in far-flung provinces.

As the program continues to roll out, further expansions to other underserved areas are anticipated, reinforcing the Marcos administration's pledge to uplift vulnerable communities through inclusive and sustainable agricultural policies.
