The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has pledged full adherence to the directive issued by Acting Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, which mandates officials to utilize public transportation. This initiative is intended to foster a deeper understanding of commuters' daily experiences and inform improvements in the transport system.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II expressed support for the memorandum, describing it as "a valuable feedback mechanism for DOTr officials by immersing them in the routine of ordinary Filipino commuters."

"We at the LTO embrace this directive as a return to basics, ensuring that DOTr officials remain connected with the real challenges faced by public transportation users," Mendoza stated.

He further assured, "We fully back Secretary Lopez's order and commit to providing insightful observations and recommendations to enhance the country’s transportation network."

According to the directive, all senior officials of the DOTr and its attached agencies are required to ride public utility vehicles—such as buses and jeepneys—at least once a week. Within the LTO, this mandate applies from the Chief down to the Assistant Regional Directors.

Mendoza confirmed that the instructions have already been conveyed to the relevant personnel. A supplementary order is forthcoming to incorporate leaders of District and Satellite Offices.

"This presents a meaningful experience for everyone involved. Through firsthand exposure, we are optimistic about developing effective strategies to improve public transport in the Philippines," Mendoza remarked.

He added, "Most importantly, this initiative places DOTr officials at the forefront of public transport use, enabling them to genuinely practice and implement the changes they advocate."
