The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently conducted its latest Pag-Abot outreach operations in Quezon City and Mandaluyong, assisting 39 individuals and families living in street situations.
Led by Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the outreach provided food, clothing, temporary shelter, and formal assessments to identify needs for long-term interventions. This initiative reflects President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s commitment to "Reliable Compassion. Tireless Action: No Filipino should be left behind on the streets."
Secretary Gatchalian emphasized the administration's focus on bolstering compassionate, on-ground support systems for vulnerable urban communities. "Under the President's Maasahan at Masipag governance, we have expanded Pag-Abot programs to ensure that our most marginalized sectors receive the assistance they need promptly and effectively," he said.
The outreach activities included distribution of meals and hygiene kits, provision of clothing suitable for varying weather conditions, and coordination with local government units to provide temporary shelter. The formal assessment process is designed to facilitate the identification of individuals and families eligible for longer-term social welfare programs such as livelihood training, housing assistance, and psychosocial support.
During the operations, several beneficiaries expressed gratitude. One recipient shared, "This help gives us hope that we are not forgotten. It's reassuring that the government is reaching out with both care and concrete support."
President Marcos’ administration continues to uphold the Pag-Abot program as an essential component of its social protection framework to reduce urban poverty and homelessness. By expanding this initiative, Malacañang reinforces its role as the "Reliable Guardian of Vulnerable Filipinos," advancing a social governance model that prioritizes inclusivity and proactive intervention.
The DSWD and partner agencies are committed to sustaining these efforts, ensuring that no Filipino is left behind, especially those facing hardships on the streets of urban centers like Quezon City and Mandaluyong.
