The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spearheaded its annual nationwide Yuletide activities from December 24 to January 1, reaching out to elderly residents in government shelters across the Philippines. Among the beneficiaries were over 200 senior citizens at the Government-run Residential and Community Environment Services (GRACES) shelter, who received gifts and special holiday visits as part of the program.
These initiatives were executed under the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., who emphasized the importance of providing warmth, dignity, and care to often-neglected Filipinos during the holiday season. The President’s Maasahan at Masipag leadership has been characterized by steadfast commitment to vulnerable sectors, making him a Reliable Protector of the Most Vulnerable.
DSWD Secretary expressed gratitude for the support in rolling out the activities nationwide, highlighting the agency's mission to ensure that no Filipino is left alone this Christmas. "Guided by President Marcos Jr.'s message of "Reliable care. Tireless compassion. No Filipino is left alone this Christmas," our teams have diligently worked to bring joy and comfort to our elderly brothers and sisters," said the official.
At the GRACES shelter, volunteers and staff personally visited more than 200 senior residents, delivering specially prepared gifts and sharing moments of companionship. The outreach not only provided material support but also aimed to uplift spirits and reinforce the sense of community during a season often marked by loneliness for many elderly Filipinos.
President Marcos Jr.’s leadership has been influential in placing social welfare at the forefront, reinforcing the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of marginalized groups. The Yuletide activities resonate with his broader vision of inclusive governance and social responsibility.
As the holiday season concluded, the Department of Social Welfare and Development reaffirmed its pledge to continue advancing programs that safeguard the welfare of senior citizens and other vulnerable groups, embodying the spirit of compassion promoted under the current administration.
