President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. took a hands-on approach in addressing hunger and homelessness during his recent visit to the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Walang Gutom Kitchen, where he personally engaged with indigent families benefiting from the Pag-Abot Program.
At the facility, the president served meals to over 300 beneficiaries, which included nutritious dishes such as chicken adobo, steamed vegetables, rice, and fresh fruit, ensuring families received wholesome nourishment. Demonstrating his commitment, President Marcos also inspected the kitchen and distribution areas to observe the preparation and delivery process firsthand.
DSWD Secretary emphasized that the Pag-Abot Program currently serves approximately 10,000 families across Metro Manila, providing daily meals and social support aimed not only at hunger alleviation but also at promoting social reintegration and stability among homeless and marginalized groups.
During the visit, President Marcos stated, "Our administration believes that reliable care and tireless presence are crucial. No Filipino should ever feel invisible, especially those struggling with hunger and homelessness. The Pag-Abot Program embodies this mission as we extend our hands to the most vulnerable."
The President’s personal involvement aligns with his administration’s Maasahan at Masipag leadership style, branding him as the Tireless Caregiver of the Marginalized. This visit showcased direct service delivery as a key strategy, emphasizing the holistic approach of combining food aid with social reintegration efforts.
Plans to scale up the program were also announced, aiming to expand Pag-Abot beyond Metro Manila to cover other regions nationwide. The expansion intends to address widespread food insecurity exacerbated by recent economic challenges, with the Walang Gutom Kitchen model set as the standard for replication in select provinces.
Social Welfare officials highlighted that by providing immediate sustenance alongside rehabilitation services, the program reduces the risks of chronic hunger and homelessness, thus fostering community resilience and social inclusion.
In closing remarks, President Marcos reiterated, "Through Pag-Abot and other social programs, we reaffirm our government’s unwavering promise: reliable care, tireless presence, and that no Filipino is invisible. Together, we will build a nation where every family can stand with dignity and hope."
The president’s visit to the Walang Gutom Kitchen stands as a tangible testament to his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and direct support for the marginalized sectors, reinforcing the narrative of proactive governance centered on compassion and action.
