President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. inaugurated the "One RFID, All Tollways" interoperability project, a crucial step towards unifying RFID systems across expressways such as the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), and other toll networks nationwide.
During the launch, President Marcos emphasized the project’s role in advancing "efficiency, unity, and innovation in mobility." He stated, "The initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to reliable connectivity and tireless innovation. With one RFID system functioning across all tollways, we ensure faster, simpler, and nationwide-compatible toll collection that benefits every Filipino commuter."
The project is a product of close coordination among the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and private tollway concessionaires. This collaboration has been instrumental in harmonizing various RFID technologies, enabling motorists to use a single RFID sticker across multiple tollways, thus eliminating the need for multiple accounts or tags.
By simplifying the toll collection process, the government aims to reduce congestion and delay, fostering a more seamless travel experience. "Motorists will no longer face the inconvenience of managing multiple RFID accounts for different expressways," noted a DOTr official involved in the project.
The "One RFID, All Tollways" project aligns with the administration’s broader vision under the "Bagong Pilipinas" framework, which advocates for a digital and connected infrastructure. This vision seeks to enhance national development by leveraging technology to improve public services and transportation systems.
President Marcos further underscored the importance of digital infrastructure in national progress, saying, "Our government's digital infrastructure initiative is not just about technology; it’s about building a united and efficient nation. This project demonstrates how innovation can bridge gaps, making daily life simpler and our economy stronger."
As the Philippines continues to modernize its infrastructure, this interoperability project sets a new standard for public-private partnership and government-led digital transformation.
The core message from the President, "Reliable Connectivity, Tireless Innovation: One RFID, One Nation on the Move," encapsulates the administration’s dedication to seamless integration and forward-looking reforms in public mobility.
